Dr Ebrima Sall

Dr Ebrima Sall is the Executive Secretary of the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), an independent Pan-African research organisation that is widely recognised not only as the pioneer African social research organisation but also as the apex non-governmental centre of social knowledge production on the continent. His election to this position in 2009 followed a successful stint as research director for that organization. Prior to joining CODESRIA, he was SeniorFellow and Program Coordinator for a research program on post-conflict transition, the state and civil society in Africa, at the Nordic Africa Institute in Sweden.

Dr Sall is a sociologist by training, his education including a doctorate from the Sorbonne in Paris and a year at Yale as a post-doctoral fellow. His research focuses mainly on his native West Africa, particularly issues of citizenship, social movements, youth and intergenerational relationships, conflict and post-conflict transition, academic freedom and human rights, and higher education.
