H.E. Abdalla Hamdok served as the 15th Prime Minister of the Republic of Sudan from 21 August 2019 to 2 January 2022.

A policy analyst and economist, he has over 35 years of experience in addressing development challenges in Africa at national, sub-regional and continent-wide levels. From 2011-2018, Abdalla Hamdok was Deputy Executive Secretary for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). Prior to this, from 2001-2011, he held several other positions at UNECA including Director of the Governance and Public Administration Division, Director of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) and Regional Integration Division, and Senior Governance Expert/Coordinator of UNECA.

At the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), Abdalla Hamdok was the Regional Director for Africa and the Middle East and worked on the Africa Governance Project. He was also Acting Director at the Development Policy Management Division in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. He has also served in multiple roles within the African Development Bank and United Nations Development Programme, alongside roles in the private sector with Deloitte & Touche Management Consultants.

Abdalla Hamdok holds a PhD and MA (Econ) in Economics from the University of Manchester and a BSc (Hons) from the University of Khartoum in Sudan.
